Special Edition: Hollyhock House Could Close Amid City Budget Cuts
Word came to us from Stan Ecklund last night about this LA Times article reporting that the Hollyhock House is in danger of closing.
Stan runs The Wright Attitude and Frank Lloyd Wright Nation Facebook groups. He's also served as a volunteer docent at Hollyhock House for the last decade.
From the LA Times story...
The City of Los Angeles, which owns Barnsdall Park and Hollyhock House, has a massive budget shortfall and is planning to deal with it in part by laying off over a thousand city employees. Several sources have indicated that the staff at the house could be reduced to a single person, mandating a temporary end to public access to the site, and putting it's UNESCO World Heritage Site inscription at risk.
Here's how you can help right now!
There's a Change.org petition asking the City of Los Angeles to keep the house open. Just click here to review and sign it. As of this issue, there are approximately 1,800 signatures. Let's add a few more thousand to the list today!
